MOORHEAD – A Moorhead man has been charged with fifth-degree drug possession, a felony, after prosecutors allege he left his baggie of methamphetamine on a gas station counter.
Court documents filed in Clay County District Court say a clerk noticed the drugs sitting on the counter after the man paid for some items and left. The clerk thought it might be a baggie with drugs in it, so she called police.
Then, according to court documents, the man – Michael Glen Carter, 29 –drove back to the Orton’s at 725 30th Ave. S. and sent in a friend to look around the counter for the drugs, without success.
The car with Carter and his companions came back a third time, court documents say, and this time a woman got out, went into the store and started looking around the same area as the second man.
When officers arrived at Orton’s to investigate, they ran into Carter’s girlfriend, who told them she was told to come back to the store and look for the baggie full of meth.

Police compared a store surveillance video image of the man who dropped the drugs and found it matched a law enforcement database photograph of Carter, court documents say.
Carter’s next court appearance is set for Aug. 15.
