A Moorhead man is charged with violating Minnesota's sex offender registration law.

Daniel Mark Shern, 42, is accused in Clay County District Court of failing to keep police informed of his whereabouts as required by law.

According to a court complaint, Shern is subject to sex offender registration requirements, although the document doesn't cite specifics about his record.

Court documents say:

Moorhead police made a check on Shern's last known address, 525 Caddy Ave., in April 2004 and could not find him.

Officers made a number of subsequent visits to the address, but Shern, who prepaid the rent on the residence for all of 2004, was never found there.

A letter police mailed to Shern asking him to confirm his registration was not answered and Shern's landlord told police Shern may be living at a lake home.
