Moorhead officers to receive Medals of Valor

MOORHEAD - The Moorhead Police Department is hosting a ceremony today at 3 p.m.

MOORHEAD - The Moorhead Police Department is hosting a ceremony today at 3 p.m. in the training room of the Law Enforcement Center for the first two Moorhead officers to receive the Medal of Valor service award.

Field Training Officers Joshua Schroeder and partner in training Trent Bachman responded to a call in the 3500 block of Village Green Drive for a reported burglary in progress June 6.

The nature of the call changed to a suicidal male physically fighting with his family members and threatening them with a knife and a shovel described as a long-handled dirt spade, a release stated.

Officers encountered the suspect and numerous family members and neighbors in the yard of the residence. The suspect then attacked officers with the dirt spade, striking Schroeder before he and his partner could use a Taser and pepper spray.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a medical facility for treatment.
