The city of Moorhead is gearing up for another construction season.
Work will get under way starting in May on several resurfacing projects in Moorhead and Clay County, which may cause some lane closures but are not expected to cause major traffic delays.
Moorhead will begin resurfacing and sidewalk work on First Avenue North from Eighth Street to 17th Street this spring. Lane closures and detours are likely, especially when crews replace a railroad crossing later in the summer. The project should wrap up by early fall, said City Engineer Bob Zimmerman.
A project at Fourth Avenue South from 21st to 34th streets, adjacent to Moorhead High School, will likely get under way after students are dismissed for the summer. Zimmerman hopes crews have the work wrapped up before classes resume in the fall, "but that's a pretty short window," he said.
Moorhead will also complete a few road projects started last year.

Federal stimulus-funded improvements to the Center Avenue bridge will be complete when the structure gets a new paint job this summer, Zimmerman said.
The city will also work with the Minnesota Department of Transportation to finish the 34th Street South and Interstate 94 interchange. Restructuring of the interchange started in September 2008, and work should be completed by October. The project is not expected to cause major traffic delays, Zimmerman said.
In May, MnDOT will begin resurfacing Highway 10 between Dilworth's east city limits and Highway 75 in Moorhead, said Dana Hanson, public affairs coordinator at the MnDOT District 4 office in Detroit Lakes.
Traffic may be reduced to one lane at times throughout the summer as work is completed on both the east- and westbound lanes. Construction should finish by the end of June, Hanson said.
"Last year was MnDOT's largest construction season ever because of the stimulus we received last spring. This year it's slowing down a bit," Hanson said.
