MOORHEAD — If you look closely, you likely won't be able to tell the difference between cannabis with THC and hemp industrial flower. They look and smell the same.
For the first time, hemp industrial flower is now being sold in Moorhead. Northland Vapor Company is the first in the city to offer it to customers through Minnesota's hemp pilot program.
First authorized by a 2015 Minnesota law, the pilot program has now become more accessible after Federal restrictions on hemp production were further loosened in 2018.

"It's nice to have in the area." said Jason Bye with Northland Vapor. " There is clearly a demand for it."
The flower is entirely legal because it has no THC in it, the psychoactive chemical that creates the high from cannabis. Hemp industrial flower falls under the same category as cannabidiol, or CBD products. You can find CBD in a variety of forms including gummies, oils and pills. However, hemp industrial flower is new to the shelves.
"This is a natural product, and it's all local," Bye said.
Northland Vapor worked with Minnesota's hemp pilot program for months to get the product into the stores. It's all grown locally in Minnesota. Northland even went through Moorhead Police to make sure it could all be legal.
Customers don't get 'high' off of any CBD products, but it can ease pain. Customers use it solely for medical reasons.
Cassie Cwikla said she has never tried the flower but would be open to it. Cwikla has been using CBD oil since the summer to relieve her anxiety.
"With CBD oil, I don't have to worry about any of that," Cwikla said. "It just completely eases that panic and any of that anxiety."
