Moorhead Area Public Schools Superintendent Larry Nybladh has emerged as the top candidate for the superintendent job in Grand Forks, that city's school board members said.

Grand Forks School Board President Mike St. Onge and his Grand Forks Air Base counterpart, Rebecca Holmes, plan a site visit to the Moorhead school district Wednesday morning. An original Tuesday visit was postponed. If hired, Nybladh would lead both districts, in the city and on the base. Onge said weather conditions might cause the pair to reschedule the visit.

The school board presidents plan to interview teachers, students and parents of the Moorhead district, Grand Forks School Board Vice President DeAnna Carlson Zink said. The school board has authorized the presidents to offer Nybladh the job at the end of the visit.

"His years of experience and his knowledge of the North Dakota school system made him stand out," Carlson Zink said about Nybladh. The Moorhead superintendent since 2000, Nybladh had logged more years in education than any of his rivals for the job - Jeff Schatz, the principal of Grand Forks Central High School; James Gunner, superintendent of the Bryan (Ohio) City School District; and Paul Stremick, superintendent of Dickinson (N.D.) Public Schools.

Nybladh could not be reached for comment Monday morning and early afternoon.
