BISMARCK - A mountain lion has been killed near Cogswell, in southeastern North Dakota.
Game and Fish Department officials said the cougar was killed Tuesday by coyote hunters. Officials said the cat was a young male and weighed about 100 pounds.
Five mountain lions were killed earlier in North Dakota's Badlands, which is considered to be the state's prime cougar country. The season for the Badlands area closed on Nov. 10 after the five-cat quota was reached.
The cougar killed near Cogswell was the first cat to be killed in Zone 2, which includes all areas outside the Badlands. There is no quota in that zone, which is open though March 9.
