MPCA seeking feedback on egg-laying feedlot

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is inviting public comment on the Environmental Assessment Worksheet prepared for a proposed expansion of HighLevel Egg, an egg-laying feedlot near Lake Park, Minn.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is inviting public comment on the Environmental Assessment Worksheet prepared for a proposed expansion of HighLevel Egg, an egg-laying feedlot near Lake Park, Minn.

The EAW is a preliminary environmental review of how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment.

The site currently has two barns. The proposed expansion would take place in two phases, with each barn receiving new cages with conveyor belts under each cage, and a continuous air-drying system to dry the manure as it moves on conveyor belts.

Each phase would also include construction of a 64-foot-by-200-foot dry manure storage facility, each one capable of storing a year's worth of dried manure from one barn and providing space for composting dead birds.

Copies of the EAW are available at www.pca.state.mn.us/news/eaw/index.html or the MPCA Detroit Lakes (Minn.) office.
