N.D. interim budget director will stay on

BISMARCK -- The interim state budget director passed the test, Gov. John Hoeven said Wednesday as he named Pam Sharp director of the state Office of Management and Budget.

The test was the recently completed legislative session. Sharp has been interim director since Rod Backman left the post Dec. 31. Hoeven said he would not look for a new budget director until after the Legislature finished.

When the session was over, the governor decided not to advertise for applicants, he said. "Instead of going through a job search, I've decided Pam is absolutely the right person for the job," he said.

Sharp, 50, has worked at the office 11½ years, the last five as deputy director. She has also worked for the state treasurer's office, the state auditor and the Tax Department in her 17 years with state government. "She has a tremendous knowledge of state government," Hoeven said.

Sharp said she likely will not hire a replacement for her former post of deputy director.
