Hunting bills today

BISMARCK -- Three bills relating to hunting guides and outfitters come up for a hearing in the House Natural Resources Committee this morning.

House Bill 1048 would require guides and outfitters to pass a proficiency test before the state would license them.

House Bill 1049 protects guides' and outfitters' trade secrets from becoming public.

House Bill 1050 changes the definition of guides and outfitters and sets fees for getting licenses to operate as guides and outfitters.

The hearings begin at 9 a.m. in the Pioneer Room.

Speed limit bills

Two bills dealing with speed limits are being heard in the House Transportation Committee today. One completely revamps the fines for speeding

House Bill 1047 was scheduled for a morning hearing.

Instead of a complicated schedule, the bill would set speeding fines at $5 for each mile per hour over the limit.

House Bill 1046 is set for a hearing at 2:30 p.m. It removes the 55-mph speed limit at night on two-lane state highways and allows the speed to be 65 at all hours.

Also this morning, the committee will hear a bill that raises the threshold of damage that triggers the requirement that traffic accidents be reported to law enforcement.

Currently if an accident causes $1,000 damage, it has to be reported. Under House Bill 1176, the amount is raised to $5,000. The hearing is at 9 a.m.
