N.D. native named AP news editor

NEW YORK - Josh Hoffner, a North Dakota native and an editor on the National Desk of The Associated Press, has been named news editor for New York City.

NEW YORK - Josh Hoffner, a North Dakota native and an editor on the National Desk of The Associated Press, has been named news editor for New York City.

The appointment was announced Friday by Jocelyn Noveck, New York City bureau chief.

Hoffner, 29, has worked on the National Desk for five years, most recently helping to coordinate the AP's state-by-state coverage of the 2004 elections. He has worked in a wide range of supervisory roles on the desk, participating in the coverage of such stories as the Sept. 11 attacks, the Columbia shuttle disaster and the Washington-area sniper spree.

Hoffner joined the AP in 1998 in Bismarck, where he worked for two years. He also worked for the AP in Sioux Falls and Pierre, S.D.

He grew up in Maddock, N.D., went to high school in Yankton, S.D., and is a 1998 graduate of South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.
