VALLEY CITY, N.D. - A Valley City woman pleaded not guilty Thursday to a murder charge in connection with the death of a 14-month-old boy.
Cassandra Y. Riediger was living with James Lee Thompson in a Valley City apartment when both were charged last fall in the death of Thompson's son, Marcus.
The child died of chronic starvation and dehydration, according to autopsy findings.
He weighed about 13½ pounds at the time of the autopsy, Barnes County District Court documents say. The pair are accused of acting alone or together to fail to provide necessary care for the boy.
Riediger and Thompson, who has also pleaded not guilty, remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
