FARGO - The National Republican Congressional Committee has named North Dakota GOP-endorsed U.S. House candidate Brian Kalk an "On the Radar" recruit in its "Young Guns" program.
The national program funnels money and political support into electing GOP candidates in competitive House races.
Rep. Rick Berg was named a "Young Gun" during his 2010 campaign against incumbent Democrat Earl Pomeroy.
In achieving "On the Radar" status, Kalk has met unspecified organizational and fundraising benchmarks. Kalk beat out four competitors to win the North Dakota Republican Party's endorsement two weeks ago, a feat which likely boosted him into the NRCC's spotlight.
Republican House candidate Kevin Cramer also earned the "On the Radar" distinction in February after reporting strong fundraising numbers in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Cramer chose not to seek the state party's endorsement and will challenge Kalk in the June 12 primary.
