A committee searching for a new provost at North Dakota State University has narrowed the list of candidates to 11 possible names.

They are:

- Bradley Fenwick, professor in the Department of Pathobiology at University of Tennessee, where he was formerly vice chancellor of research and engagement.

- Michael Gealt, dean of the College of Science and Math at University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

- Howard Grimes, vice president for research and dean of the graduate school at Washington State University.

- Cameron Hackney, dean of the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design at West Virginia University.

- Edward Jarroll, professor of biology and dean of Natural and Social Sciences at Lehman College-City University of New York.

- Inessa Levi, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Columbus (Ga.) State University.

- Priscilla Nelson, professor of civil and environmental engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology, where she formerly was provost and senior vice president of academic affairs. Nelson also interviewed for the job of NDSU president but was not named a finalist.

- Mark Pagano, dean of University Continuing Education and Conferences at Purdue University.

- Vish Prasad, vice president for research at the University of North Texas. Prasad also applied for the NDSU presidency.

- Bruce Rafert, vice provost and dean of the graduate school at Clemson University.

- Cheryl Schrader, dean of the College of Engineering at Boise (Idaho) State University.

Thirty-one people applied for the position. Provost Craig Schnell is retiring from administration and returning to the faculty.

The search committee will now check references of the 11 candidates and meet Feb. 23 to choose eight candidates to bring for off-site interviews, which will be March 5-6.
