Ben Woodside, beginning his fourth season as the starting point guard for North Dakota State's men's basketball team, has been selected the Summit League preseason player of the year according to a poll of the league's head coaches, sports information directors and selected media members.
Woodside, a 5-foot-10 senior from Albert Lea, was a first-team All-Summit League selection last season and returns as the league's top scorer. He averaged 20.7 points last season, a total that would have placed 25th nationally.
Teammate Brett Winkelman, a senior forward from Morris, Minn., was selected to the preseason first team while teammate Mike Nelson, a senior guard from Madison, Wis., was picked to the second team.
The Bison were picked to finish second to Oral Roberts in the league standings.
