FARGO - A new flood forecast issued today predicts the Red River will reach minor flood stage early next week and crest at 18.5 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

The river and its tributaries are swelling with heavy rains that struck the valley in a storm with high winds.

Minor flood stage on the Red in Fargo-Moorhead begins at 18 feet.

Fargo received 1.88 inches as of this morning, with unofficial reports of more than 2 inches.

Fergus Falls, Minn., received 2.99 inches. Lidgerwood, N.D., received 1.58 inches and Havana, N.D., received 1.7 inches, all as of this morning.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for dry weather over the next seven days, and forecasters say it is too early to make any predictions about a spring flood.
