The Fourth of July serves as the day Americans celebrate their independence.

Since 1776, when the Continental Army fought for freedom from Britain, to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Americans have flown flags as a symbol of our country's strength, patriotism and unity.

While Independence Day marks an annual ritual of gatherings, celebration and fireworks, perhaps no other symbol better sums up America's resolve than the display of Old Glory's red, white and blue.

Have a favorite story about your flag? Perhaps you have a flag with sentimental value or you've visited a place where the flag evoked feelings of pride. Or maybe you want to express what the American flag means or represents to you.
