BISMARCK - The North Dakota Council on the Arts has given a Wahpeton, N.D., folk artist a $2,500 fellowship.

Norik Astvatsaturov of Wahpeton and Minot playwright Conrad Davidson were given the grants.

Astvatsaturov plans to create ornate copper and German silver repoussé pieces, carve a khachkar (an intricately carved stone cross) and arrange for public presentations of his art.

Davidson plans to complete a series of related short plays, collectively titled "Dinner Theatre"; write the first drafts of a play cycle; research potential producers for his plays and market his work.

The Individual Artist Fellowship program recognizes practicing artists residing in North Dakota with a monetary fellowship award.
