A two-day seat-belt blitz conducted in the southeast region of North Dakota resulted in multiple warnings and citations for drivers in 15 counties.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol conducted the blitz Wednesday and Thursday in Barnes, Cass, Dickey, Eddy, Griggs, Foster, Lamoure, Logan, McIntosh, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Steele, Stutsman and Traill counties.
Troopers issued 229 citations and 93 warnings during the blitz, with 73 citations and one warning specifically for seat-belt violations, the release said.
There have been 33 fatalities in North Dakota so far this year, with 22 not wearing seat belts. In 2008, 59 of the 104 fatalities were not wearing seat belts, the release said.
