Northern Michigan University has named the vice president at Valley City (N.D.) State University as its next president.
The NMU Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday morning to offer the job to Les Wong, and he accepted, according to an NMU press release.
Wong has served in the position at VCSU since 1999. He is expected to begin his new duties at the Marquette campus on or before July 1. Details of the contract remain to be finalized, NMU said.
"The thing that really sold us on Northern was the spirit of the people, the university's student-centered approach, and its reputation for quality academics," Wong said.
Wong holds a doctorate degree in educational psychology from Washington State University, a master's in experimental psychology from Eastern Washington University and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Gonzaga University.

His previous administrative positions include provost and academic vice president, along with six months as interim president, at the University of Southern Colorado, and academic dean at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash.
Wong succeeds Judi Bailey, who left NMU last spring to become president at Western Michigan University.
