FARGO - The Board of Regents of Oak Grove Lutheran School has chosen Marilyn Guy as the school's interim president.

Guy currently serves as a professor in the education department at Concordia College in Moorhead. She will take a leave of absence from Concordia. She officially starts at Oak Grove on Monday.

She also has served as a past Fargo Dome Authority member.

"I am honored to have been invited to join the Oak Grove community and am excited to begin," Guy said in a news release. "I have great appreciation for the commitment and dedication of the teachers, administrators and staff."

Guy received her bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in education from the University of North Dakota. She taught at Red River High School in Grand Forks and has been a professor at Concordia for more than 30 years.

In her time at Concordia, she has supervised student teachers, served as the chairwoman of the education department and been an assistant academic dean.

Guy also has served on local, regional and national committees and boards in the area of education, accreditation and community leadership.

"With her extensive background in education, management, and faith leadership, she possesses the needed skill set to lead Oak Grove during this time of transition," said Interim Board Chairwoman Jan Wigen in a news release. "We look forward to her expertise and guidance as the school prepares for the future."

Guy is the first woman to serve in the capacity of president in Oak Grove's 103-year history. Oak Grove has had 10 presidents and three interim presidents in its existence.

Bruce Messelt became the school's 10th president in 2007. In June, he announced his decision not to renew his contract at the end of its term on July 11.

Oak Grove Lutheran School serves nearly 500 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 on two campuses in Fargo. The school is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
