Oakport residents must plug lower-level drains

Oakport Township experienced problems with its sewer system on the east side of the Oakport Coulee this weekend, although officials don't know of any homes that experienced sewer backup, township chair Greg Anderson said Monday.

Residents of Oakport, north of Moorhead, have been asked to keep lower-level drains plugged.

Plugs had been placed in the sewer line to prevent water from the coulee area from entering the system. Water pressure pushed out the plugs, and some river water did enter the system, Anderson said.

Also Monday, Anderson said officials hoped to clear clay dikes off roadways "as soon as we can safely do so."

Meanwhile, Wall Street remained underwater Monday afternoon, although residents are able to access the area through County Road 93, north of Wall Street.
