SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A dump truck towing a trailer with a skid-loader smashed into a concrete barrier on Interstate 229 Thursday, killing a passenger in the truck.
Danny E. Hayne, 43, of Brandon, was thrown through the windshield and lodged under the truck, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
Neither Hayne nor said the driver, 22-year-old Craig Fitchner, of Sioux Falls, were wearing seat belts, authorities said.
Fitchner quickly unloaded the skid-loader to lift the truck and free his passenger, but Hayne died after being taken to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Fitchner, who was treated for minor injuries, was ticketed for careless driving, not having a commercial driver's license and not wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
