FARGO - The owner of a West Fargo tanning salon has been sentenced to seven months and 15 days in prison after failing to register as a sex offender, according to federal authorities.
Jared Holland, 28, of Fargo, was also sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson to 10 years of supervised release with a condition that he be placed in home confinement for seven months, according to a release from U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon. Holland was also ordered to pay $100 to the Crime Victims fund.
Fargo police officers were dispatched on March 31, 2012, to Holland's south Fargo residence on a domestic complaint, the release stated. They discovered Holland was a Tier III sex offender who was convicted of second-degree rape in Brown County, S.D., in September 2003.
Following an investigation, law enforcement discovered that Holland and his wife had moved to Fargo to operate a tanning salon in Eagle Run Plaza in West Fargo called Exclusive Tan, the release stated.
Holland failed to notify authorities of the new job after the move, which he is required to do as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty to the failure to register charge in April.
