JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The North Dakota Game and Fish Department, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Pheasants Forever are funding a farm bill biologist position in Jamestown.
Stephen Stensgard will help NRCS with farm bill programs such as the Conservation Reserve Program and the Wetland Reserve Program. He is someone private landowners can call for help with wildlife habitat on their land, said Kevin Kading, private lands coordinator for Game and Fish.
"The template has been a proven success in many other Midwestern states," Kading said.
With the addition of North Dakota there are 33 farm bill biologists in seven states. The other states are Ohio, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin, Kading said.
Stensgard, an employee of Pheasants Forever, has a degree in fisheries and wildlife biology from the University of North Dakota. He previously has worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Minnesota and for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
