FARGO — A woman has the help of a stranger to thank for safely getting out of her van in time before its engine burst into flames, according to the Fargo Fire Department.
Fire Captain Brandon Wehner told WDAY News the woman was heading eastbound on Main Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on April 27. A passerby told fire fighters he noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and flagged her down. The driver said she could smell something before pulling over near, but did not see any smoke at the time.
Wehner said flames erupted from the van shortly after the driver safely exited the vehicle. The Fargo Fire Department arrived on scene and put out the fire within five minutes.
Officers from the Fargo Police Department redirected traffic around the scene as crews worked to clean up the aftermath of the fire. A turn lane had to temporarily be closed before the van was towed away.
Wehner said no one was hurt. The fire stayed contained in the engine, but the vehicle is likely a total loss.
