Police arrested a Perley, Minn., man Tuesday night after they said he assaulted a Glyndon, Minn., officer and led them on a 40-mile chase.
According to the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Glyndon police attempted to serve a felony warrant to Jeremy Kelly, 33, at about 6 p.m. During the attempt to arrest Kelly, police said he assaulted the police officer and fled the scene.
The Sheriff's Department arrived at the scene as Kelly was fleeing in his vehicle, driving through back yards. Officers pursued him out of Glyndon to Felton and then Georgetown before apprehending him in front of his Perley residence.
Clay County Lt. Stephen Landsem said Kelly has a history of violence and resisting police officers. About a year ago the Norman County Sheriff's Department dealt with Kelly during a barricade situation at the same address.
Kelly is wanted in Cass County for outstanding warrants for drug-related felonies, Landsem said. Kelly is being held in Clay County Jail and is expected to be charged with fourth-degree assault, felony fleeing and gross misdemeanor obstructing.
