FARGO - Fargo's fire chief is warning residents about a phone scam from callers who claim to be raising money for important firefighter equipment and victims of fires. Chief Steve Dirksen said the fire department does not participate in phone solicitations to raise funds, nor does it endorse any groups that make those calls.

The department receives operational and capital funding through the city of Fargo. If you receive a call from a group claiming to be from the Fargo Fire Department asking you to make a donation, you should call the Consumer Protection Division of the North Dakota Attorney General's Office at (800) 472-2600.
