Fargo police are investigating a string of apartment burglaries in the past week that authorities believe may be connected.

Police have received eight reports of burglaries since Sunday, including two reports where the victim found a suspect with a similar description in the apartment. This leads police to believe it could be the same thief, said Sgt. Jeff Skuza.

"All indications are it's the same person," Skuza said.

One woman came home about 3 p.m. Wednesday to find a man with a suitcase in her apartment.

The man matched the description a woman gave police Monday after she found a man in her bedroom about 8:30 p.m. at 4452 47th St. S., Skuza said. Nothing was taken from the woman's apartment, but while she was talking to police, a neighbor reported a laptop computer and her purse were stolen from her apartment unit.

The suspect is described as having a darker complexion, being around 6 feet tall, wearing black clothing and carrying either a black tote bag or a suitcase.

The man has not been violent toward any of the victims and left without incident on both occasions, Skuza said.

He added the suspect has not gained entry through an unlocked door, saying, "I don't think the tenants could do anything different about securing their homes."

Cash, electronics and jewelry have been taken.

Skuza suggested people watch out for their neighbors and be on the lookout for anyone who does not look familiar or for anything that looks out of place.
