Police: Expect delays, but no closed streets for Clinton visit tonight

FARGO - No downtown street closures are planned for Bill Clinton's appearance here tonight, but police say motorists should expect delays during what is expected to be a busy event.

FARGO - No downtown street closures are planned for Bill Clinton's appearance here tonight, but police say motorists should expect delays during what is expected to be a busy event.

The former president will appear at the Fargo Civic Center at 7 p.m. to campaign for U.S. Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp.

Lt. Joel Vettel said Fargo police expect about 3,000 people to attend, though he cautioned that's only an estimate.

"It's going to be a busy night," he said.

The Clinton event begins two hours after a Fargo City Commission meeting in the same building. Vettel said the combination of the two and the already-limited parking around the Civic Center means attendees will have to be patient.

"People are going to have to walk a little bit," he said.

He advised motorists who are not coming downtown to avoid the area.
