FARGO – A Litchville, N.D., man was killed after he suffered a medical condition and crashed his car Saturday morning near Valley City, N.D., the state Highway Patrol said.

Dennis Shape, 63, died in the crash. Shape's wife, Diane Shape, 63, was a passenger and suffered minor injuries.

A passing driver and state trooper equipped with a defibrillator tried to resuscitate Dennis Shape. An ambulance crew took over when they arrived but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The accident happened around 10:20 a.m. on state Highway 1, a mile south of the Interstate 94 ramp and two miles southwest of Valley City. The couple were northbound in a Chevy Silverado when Dennis Shape had an undetermined condition that caused him to lose control and drift into the east ditch. The pickup continued for a few hundred yards before hitting a rock pile at the edge of a field.

Both the driver and passenger wore seatbelts.
