GRAND FORKS – Grand Forks police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old man after it appears drug use was a contributing factor.
Around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, the Grand Forks Police Department responded to a medical assist in the 3600 block of Landeco Lane regarding an unresponsive 18-year-old male.
When officers and paramedics arrived on scene, CPR and other life-saving measures were performed, however the man was pronounced dead by the Grand Forks County coroner.
The victim is 18-year-old Bailey Henke of Grand Forks.
In the release, police say the substance connected with Henke’s death is powdered fentanyl, a very potent opiate (Schedule II narcotic).

Police say this represents a significant threat to those who use it, as this is not fentanyl obtained from a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, instead it has been obtained through illicit means, resulting in unpredictable potency.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
