Fargo police are looking for a man who attempted a downtown armed robbery Wednesday night.

Police Sgt. Greg Lemke said officers were dispatched to 118 Broadway at 7:45 p.m. A male victim told police he was in the alley behind that address when he was approached by a male who asked him if he wanted to smoke marijuana. The victim walked down the alley with the man a short distance before he pulled out a small handgun, held it up to the victim's neck and demanded his wallet.

The victim, who did not have his wallet, managed to get away from his assailant and ran into nearby Bertrosa's Restaurant to call police. The suspect fled.

The assailant was described as a white male, about 45 years old, wearing a waist-length green or gray coat and a cap of the same color with a Nike logo. Lemke said officers found two people that fit the general description, but the victim was unable to identify them.
