MOORHEAD - Police here are looking for the owner of a dog that bit a police officer this morning.

The dog, a male pit bull, bit the officer in the thigh while the officer was escorting it off the property of 817 19th St. N.

The officer was treated for his injuries at Sanford Health, and the dog was taken to the Fargo-Moorhead Animal Hospital to be monitored for signs of rabies.

The tan-colored dog with scars on its face and head is not registered and had no owner tags.

Police are trying to determine if the dog is vaccinated against the disease.
