One of the premier high school athletes in the state of Minnesota finally made a decision between football and basketball. And the North Dakota State football program came out the winner in the pursuit of Marcus Williams.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Hopkins standout said Wednesday that he has committed to NDSU and will enroll this fall. Williams caught 42 passes for 1,021 yards and 10 touchdowns in what he called "a breakout season."
In basketball, he was the point guard for the unbeaten and nationally-ranked Royals. He was looking at both sports throughout his senior year, but he said he picked NDSU football over Northern Iowa and the University of Minnesota.
"It was very tough because first of all I didn't know what sport I wanted to play," Williams said. "It took a long time in the process until I found out what I really wanted to do."
He said he's not sure what position the Bison coaches want him to play, but wide receiver appears to be the leading candidate.
