Minnesota State University Moorhead's Regional Science Center will host "Creepy, Crawley Critters" at 3 p.m. July 13 and a "Star Party on the Prairie" from 9 to 11 p.m. July 17.

Participants in "Creepy, Crawley Critters" will look at insects and their relatives who are an important part of the prairie community. Prairie insects will be collected and examined using magnifying glasses and microscopes, and a hands-on activity will explore the prairie food web and insects' important roles in it. In addition, the interpretive center will be open to visitors from 1 to 5 p.m. July 13.

Away from city lights and in the prairie darkness, participants in "Star Party on the Prairie" will learn how to find constellations and view the Milky Way, nebulae and star clusters through telescopes. Some July meteors may also be visible.

Participants can bring their own binoculars or telescopes. If it's cloudy, an indoor presentation will begin at 9 p.m.

Both programs are free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring insect repellent.
