FARGO - A Fargo man who was arrested earlier this week following a stabbing incident will not face charges because an investigation showed he could make a strong case for self-defense, according to Assistant Cass County Prosecutor Tristan Van de Streek.
Herbert Brady, 58, was arrested after a fight that occurred Tuesday night at his apartment building in downtown Fargo.
The incident left a male neighbor with stab wounds to his wrist and neck.
Documents released by Van de Streek indicate the man who was stabbed, identified in court documents as Terrence Menge, had gone to Brady's apartment and, according to Brady, punched Brady the moment he opened the door.
A neighbor told police he didn't see the altercation, but said he heard Menge telling Brady that he was coming for him.

The witness also said he heard Brady tell Menge to get out of his room and to stop hitting him.
A surveillance video captured some of the incident.
It shows Menge walking toward Brady's apartment and entering it.
Seconds later, a scuffle spills out into the hallway and Brady can be seen cutting Menge several times.
It then appears that Brady pushes Menge away and goes back into his apartment.
The video shows Menge stepping toward Brady's door before walking away.
Brady was also involved in a stabbing incident in 2015.

He faced charges in that case and ended up pleading guilty to a count of simple assault.
That incident happened less than half a block from where Tuesday night's incident occurred.
Van De Streek said in a court memo declining to prosecute that the statements provided by the witness in the case strongly suggest Brady was "acting to defend himself and his home."
