FARGO - The Fargo-Moorhead area appears to have dodged the snow that dumped on parts of central and southwest North Dakota since Thursday.

Fargo-Moorhead received just less than a quarter-inch of rain in the 24-hour period ending at 7 a.m., said Peter Rogers, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

Snow remains still a possibility in the Red River Valley today, but any accumulation would be light.

The ground is warm enough that any snow would likely melt on impact, Rogers said.

Today's forecast calls for a high near 38 degrees, with winds increasing as the day goes on. Gusts could reach up to 25 miles per hour, according to the weather service forecast.

Rain will continue to fall throughout the day, but will likely end around midnight, Rogers said. Fargo-Moorhead could pick up another half-inch of rain before the weather system passes.

Meanwhile, southwestern North Dakota saw the largest accumulations of snow overnight, with Bowman reporting 8 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Bismarck.

The snowfall turned into a rain/snow mix as it crossed into the central and eastern parts of the state, which saw lighter accumulations.

Varying locations around Bismarck and Mandan saw about 1 to 5 inches of snow, while Jamestown and Minot reported about an inch by this morning, the weather service said.

The state Department of Transportation reported wet and slushy roads in much of south-central North Dakota, beginning west of Valley City and Lisbon.
