Photo from past
"Surge farm dairy equipment" Special to The Forum

Diane Widhalm grew up on a Detroit Lakes, Minn., farm where she did her share of cleaning cream separators and other dairy farm equipment.

While rummaging through some things in her home in Fargo recently, she came across this picture, apparently from a calendar.

Diane has no idea how she got it, but when she saw "Surge farm dairy equipment" on it, the memories came back.

Then she sent it to Neighbors in hopes someone would be able to identify the place where the picture was taken and the man in it.

A Fargo City Directory from the early 1950s shows the Rural Electric Co. was located at 1002 Front St. (now Main Avenue), and that the manager was Ben Ansley.

But the truck shows the company also had offices in Breckenridge, Minn., so maybe this photo was taken there.

A clue to the company's location is the café next door, although its name doesn't show.

So there are your Bygone Days Questions of the Week: Where was this picture taken, and who's the man in it?

Let Neighbors know, and it will milk another column out of this.

If you have an item of interest for this column, mail it to Neighbors, The Forum, Box 2020, Fargo, ND 58107; fax it to 241-5487; or e-mail blind@forumcomm.com
