NORTHWOOD, N.D. - Recovery efforts are going strong today as volunteers arrived before 8 a.m. ready to get to work to clean up the mess left behind by Sunday night's tornado, which the National Weather Service declared an EF-4.
About 80 volunteers joined a KFGO radio station caravan that left Fargo at 6:30 a.m. today.
The group, which included 30 Mayville State University athletes, brought heavy equipment, chainsaws and donated personal items.
"People know they're hurting and we've got to find a way to make this better," said Joel Heitkamp, a KFGO radio show host.
Northwood resident Bambi Woodward said she's amazed at how quickly the clean-up is going.

"It's almost like it's been organized and it hasn't," said Woodward.
Northwood residents followed a curfew from 8 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. today, said Grand Forks County Sheriff Deputy B.J. Maxson. Law enforcement is keeping the town secure and only admitting vehicles that have passes, which are available at the town's Cenex gas station, turned command center.
Volunteers are encouraged to call (701) 587-6301, extension 11 or 12, prior to coming to Northwood.
