BEMIDJI, Minn. - A Red Lake man has been convicted of stabbing one of his cousins and attempting to stab another.
Benjamin One Deer Hart was convicted of two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, according to the press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Hart stabbed one cousin and attempted to stab another on July 10 while on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, the release stated.
While at his father’s house on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, Hart was arguing with other family member and was told to leave.
Hart refused to leave and pulled a knife from a wooden knife block in the kitchen. While the cousins were trying to disarm him, he attempted to stab one of his cousins, the release state. A second cousin intervened to protect the first and Hart stabbed him in the stomach.
The victim needed surgery and was hospitalized for several days, according to the release.
A sentencing date has not yet been set.
