Authorities are trying to track down the whereabouts of thousands of dollars missing from the Red River Valley Fair.

Cass County Sheriff Don Rudnick told WDAY News that the North Dakota Crime Bureau and State Attorney Generals Office are investigating the matter. Rudick, who's also a fair board member, said the missing money is connected to the last year's 'Doobie Brothers' concert. He says somehow, up to $6500 dollars were paid in excess of the group's $5000 dollar contract.

Rudnick says authorities are also looking into the possibility that some fair receipts may have been destroyed. Results of the Fair's first comprehensive audit are expected tomorrow. Rudnick explained if enough records are missing, all the fact may never be known. "I imagine we'll have to go back and look through the other contracts too."
