Fair admission prices for the 2009 Red River Valley Fair have been set with a Mega Pass option that could be available starting next month.

The Red River Valley Fair Association's executive committee voted unanimously Thursday to set the admission fees, which will include grandstand entertainment and the Mega Pass, which starts at $50.

The pass will cover gate admission, unlimited carnival rides and grandstand entertainment daily during the fair's nine-day run, which starts July 10.

The Mega Pass purchase could save an adult nearly $300 if he or she attends the fair daily, said Fair Assistant General Manager Jodi Buresh.

The Mega Pass will be created in the form of a photo identification card with the fairgoer's name, said Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz.

Buresh said the fair is planning to sell vouchers for the Mega Pass starting in February in the area's Stop-N-Go convenience stores and the fair's office. The Mega Passes will be sold for $50 each through May 1, $60 between May 2 and July 9, and for $70 during the fair.

Those who buy the Mega Pass vouchers will need to bring them to the fair office so the personalized photo pass can be created, Buresh said.

According to the prices set, $7 will be charged for admission for those ages 12 and older; $3 for children ages 6 to 11; and free for children ages 5 and younger. A pass for unlimited carnival rides will also be sold for $25.

In other business, Schulz said an April 25 event is being planned to serve as a kickoff celebration for this year's fair. The fair's entertainment lineup will be announced at that time, with a possible performance by one of the scheduled performing acts, he said.

Schulz said seven concerts, including four country and three rock acts, are being planned, with a few already booked.

According to the Internet site Pollstar, one of the bands slated to play during the fair is rock band Survivor on July 11. One of the band's most popular hits is the 1982 "Rocky" theme song "Eye of the Tiger."

Also, the fair's executive committee is planning to meet Feb. 6-7 for its strategic planning session.

The board is working on a list of goals for one, three and five years. Schulz said the strategic planning could cost about $2,200.
