FARGO - The Red River Zoo has plans to bring the most endangered species in the world to Fargo.
The zoo is working on a project to obtain Amur leopards and Amur tigers. Only about 30 Amur leopards are left in the wild.
A conservation organization asked the Red River Zoo to take on these endangered species because of the zoo’s breeding success with other cold-climate species.
The zoo is in the planning stage for the $3 million project, which would include two separate exhibits for the cats, a breeding area and an event center in the middle.
"We anticipate having floor to ceiling glass in that area, so that the public can get right up next to these amazing cats, really gain an appreciation for the species," said zoo Executive Director Lisa Tate.

The zoo is seeking donations for the exhibit and hopes to have it up and running in three years.
