Richard A. Forseth 80, of Mayville, ND, died July 19, 2004, at his lake home in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Richard was born December 7, 1924, to Richard E. Forseth and Ruth (Palm) Forseth in Grand Forks, ND. He moved to Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. Richard attended Moorhead State University for two years before he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He returned to Moorhead State University and graduated in 1947. He began teaching that same year at Mayville State University where he taught mathematics for 39 years. He also received a master's degree in mathematics from the University of North Dakota.

Richard enjoyed sports and won the Minnesota State Pole Vaulting championship in high school. While at Moorhead State, he played varsity basketball and track. He enjoyed playing golf and won the local city championship several times. Richard also enjoyed teaching golf. He taught women's golf classes for many summers to introduce women to the game.

Richard was married in 1952 to Eleanor Algaard. He is survived by his wife; two sons, James (Shannon) Forseth of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel Forseth of Cedar Rapids, IA; and one daughter, Carol (Alan) Dosmann of Chandler, AZ; four grandchildren, Jamie Forseth, Kiefer Forseth, Danica Dosmann, and Conner Dosmann; one brother, William (Marge) Forseth; one sister, Arlene (Dale) Folger; and brother-in-law, Donald Lynch; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara, his parents, and one sister, Shirley Lynch.

Funeral: 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday, July 21, 2004 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
