KINDRED, N.D. - High winds and dry conditions caused a controlled burn near here to get out of control quickly on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire crews were called about noon to the fire in Richland County and spent most of the day fighting the flames and smoke that could be seen from miles away.
Stacy Flaten, a homeowner in the area, said she got a call at work notifying her that the fire was headed for her home.
The fire creeped within 100 yards of her home southwest of Kindred, but it was not damaged.
Fire crews from eight different agencies and the U.S. Forestry Service helped battle the fire. Crews were forced to start a back burn so the fire wouldn't hop Highway 18.

No one was injured.
About 150 acres of land burned, said Richland County Emergency Manager Brett Lambrecht.
