River activities set Saturday

If you've been looking for an excuse to hang out on the Red River, you'll have several Saturday. River Keepers, the Fargo Park District, MinnAqua, North Dakota Game and Fish and Scheels will sponsor a free day of fishing fun for families....

If you've been looking for an excuse to hang out on the Red River, you'll have several Saturday.

River Keepers, the Fargo Park District, MinnAqua, North Dakota Game and Fish and Scheels will sponsor a free day of fishing fun for families.

The Fun for All Fishing Clinic will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Dike East in Fargo.

The clinic will include stations teaching the basics of fishing such as knot tying, casting, fish identification, safety and ethics.

It will be followed by the Lil' Fishermen's Derby from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with prizes and "fishy" art and craft projects.

The 11th annual Race the Red will begin at noon on the bike/pedestrian bridge in Lindenwood Park. That will include two- and 10-mile races. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the cost $15 for solo entrants and $25 for a team. Both races will end at dike east.

There will be free kayak demonstrations from 1:30-5 p.m. at Dike East.

Stamps will be available for $1 at the Hjemkomst Center to see the juried art show, get a carriage ride or a pontoon ride aboard the S.S. Ruby.
