WEST FARGO – The underwater search for a missing snowmobiler has been suspended, the West Fargo Police Department said Sunday.
Searchers have been looking for Cole Schwindt, 34, Moorhead, since Dec. 2 when he was reported missing by friends at around 7:45 p.m.
Police believe he drowned in the Sheyenne River.
Emergency responders found evidence that he and his snowmobile had gone in the water at 12th Avenue Northwest.
Divers earlier found the snowmobile and some of Schwindt’s clothing but not Schwindt himself.
Remote-controlled underwater vehicles have been deployed, the water flow was stopped and heavy equipment used to remove ice sheets.
West Fargo police decided to suspend the so-far unsuccessful water search at 5 p.m. Saturday. They’ll continue searching on foot until the water freezes again.
If more evidence is found or if the water returns to 41 degrees, water searches will resume, they said.
