Robert F. Fritz

Robert F. Fritz, 94, 1200 Harwood Drive, Fargo, ND, died on Friday, December 19, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Robert F. Fritz was born on July 29, 1909, in Winton, MN, to Robert & Bridgette (McDonald) Fritz. He grew up and attended school in International Falls, MN, before coming to Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. He played tailback and fullback all four years at Concordia and led the Cobbers to conference championships in 1931 and 1934. He was named all-conference and designated honorable mention All-American by the United Press International. Following graduation he was a player/coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Edmonton Eskimos before becoming a coach and athletic director at the University of Alberta. In 1946 he returned to Moorhead, where he founded his own business, Bob Fritz Sporting Goods store in Fargo, ND, and served as assistant football coach for the Cobbers in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Bob married Phyllis Engebretson on May 23, 1936 in Britton, SD. She died on July 16, 1992. Bob was inducted into the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.

Bob is survived by one sister, Vivian Field, International Falls, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, and his twin sister Roberta Hanson.

Funeral: Monday, 2:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
