MOORHEAD – A driver was ejected from an SUV and pinned underneath the vehicle during a rollover crash south of here this morning, Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said.

James Smith, 35, of Fargo was driving south on County Highway 52, near 60th Avenue, about 7:45 a.m. He lost control of the SUV on a slippery stretch of road, crossed the northbound lane and went into the ditch, Bergquist said.

The SUV rolled once and landed on top of Smith who had been ejected. Sabin and Moorhead firefighters freed Smith, and he was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, Bergquist said.

The sheriff said Smith was conscious and talking at the crash scene and at the hospital.
